October 4: Sisters in Spirit Vigil

Please join us virtually on October 4, 2020, at 11am ET, noon AT, for the Maple League’s Sisters in Spirit Vigil.

October 4th is a day when we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Gender Diverse People, and look for opportunities to heal from this national tragedy. Please join us virtually on this important day to honour those we have lost and demand action so that this tragedy does not take any more Indigenous women, girls, or gender diverse people. There will be speakers with different stories and information to share and different suggestions for moving forward to a better future for all.

There will be speakers such as Lara Hartman and Elder Darlene Peters Copeland, who will share stories and information, as well as suggestions for moving towards a better future. After the speakers, there will be an open mic segment so that others can share their stories, ask questions, and have an open discussion.

Please wear red if you have it, so even though we may not be physically together, we can have solidarity for our vigil.

Asynchronous Content

In case you were unable to attend some of our Better Together: Maple League Teaching Support series in August and September, we have compiled asynchronous content of some of the key takeaways from the following sessions:

– Tuesday, August 25: Better Together: Anti-Racism in Academic and Community Spaces: Navigating turbulent waters hosted by Maritza Fariña, Dr. Juan Carlos Martínez, Kiara Bubar, Noah Lubendo, Hala Nader, and Ivan Okello (Mount Allison). https://youtu.be/hhwUcMKbj1o

– Thursday, August 27: Better Together: Student-Centred Course Design, a panel of OLTC Project Coordinators (Bishop’s). https://youtu.be/QQgh6oDUC5k

– Tuesday, September 15: Better Together: Learning Strategies for Academic Success facilitated by Siobhan Lacey (StFX) and Lydia Houck (Acadia). https://youtu.be/J79iA6hyIfI

– Wednesday, September 16: Maple League Hosts: Naming, Claiming and Aiming our Teaching Discomforts. Join Dr. Shannon Murray (UPEI), Dr. Lisa Dickson (UNBC),  and Dr. Jessica Riddell (Bishop’s), as they discuss how to name, claim and aim teaching discomforts. As we navigate the Fall 2020 semester in the midst of a global pandemic, many of us are climbing a very steep learning curve that challenges our sense of competency and our identity as teachers. In this webinar, we ask how we can “name, claim and aim” (Parker Palmer) our effective responses to this rapid and radical “retooling” of our teaching to learn about ourselves and our students in a time of crisis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUFqA4gOuQg&t
